Toadstools - Free Blackwork Embroidery Pattern
Another retired design making a comeback as a blog post free pattern? Well of course! Except this pattern has undergone a a little redesign in the mean time to make it even more fun to stitch
Before You Start Stitching
This pattern is great for keen blackwork embroidery beginners and beyond! The design is made up of simple bold outline and easy to stitch fill patterns that are so much fun to try out
Check out my Blackwork Embroidery Basics YouTube tutorial for help getting started with the technique
Beginner Friendly
Materials List
DMC 310 1 skein
An 11 inch square of 18 count Aida fabric or equivalent*
A 9 inch embroidery hoop
A blunt/tapestry needle
(*The fabric may be substituted for a lower/higher count if needed, this will mean you need a different size square of fabric and embroidery hoop. Make sure your fabric is big enough for this 120x150 stitches design)
Method - Lets get stitching!
Step one: Complete the outlines of both toadstools and the leaves using 3 strands of thread. Shown in thick black lines on the chart
Step two: Stitching the fill patterns for each area using 1 strand of thread. Shown in thin purple lines on the chart
That’s it!
